Conversation View

IN THIS ARTICLE:

The bottom half of the Thread Viewer in the conversation view presents the unique content from each message document in the conversation, regardless of the inclusive status of the individual documents. This allows for a full review of the thread group with branches indented for inline context and lets you read complex threads from top to bottom to see how the conversation progresses and what happens. Each message header in the conversation view provides information about who is added and removed from the conversation so you can review the full thread in one continuous scroll. Click on a name in the headers to open a Profile Summary Card for this person.

Added and removed participants

The conversation view shows who is added and removed from a conversation. In the example below, George Carver is removed from an email conversation with Mike Curry, John Harrison, and Mike Faraday.

People Profile Summary

Click on a name box in the header to display the People Profile Summary Card for this person.

View attachments

In the conversation view, click on the name of the attachment to navigate directly to that document. Alternatively, click the pop-out icon to preview the attachment in a separate window.

Node hovers

Hover over the node number in the top-left corner of each message in the conversation view to display the node hover.  The information in the Conversation View node hover is the same as in the Map View.

Node hovers display key information about the documents in that node including:

  • the email's From name, Sent date and time, and the total Participants

  • the number of participants that joined or left the email thread at this point

  • information about the email's attachments, duplicate emails, and duplicate attachments.

  • control numbers for each document in that node. Click on the control number link to navigate to that document. Click on the pop-out window icon next to the control number to open the document in a new window.

  • information about the document location (see below)

  • content marker information for each document in that node (see the Add Markers article.)

Document location indicators

Document Location Indicators show you which document you are on/reviewing in the Thread Viewer. They highlight the document you see behind the Thread Viewer if you slide it down or pop it out into a new window. This is also the document that is updated if you edit any fields in the Relativity layout. In the conversation view, document location indicators are orange highlighting to the left of the message, and orange underlines in the node hover and in the conversation message. If the document you are on is the main email in the node, the control number is underlined in orange in the conversation view.

If the document you are on is an attachment, the attachment is underlined in orange in the conversation view.

If the document you are on is a duplicate, the words "Duplicate Spare(s)" are underlined in orange in the conversation view.

If the document you are on is a duplicate attachment, both the attachment and words, "Duplicate Spare(s)," are underlined in orange in the conversation view.

View menu options

View menu options include the following:

  • Email Headers—when toggled Expand, shows the full email header information.
  • Inline Changes—when toggled Expand, shows the inline changes in the document in red (removed) and green (added) text.
  • Mentions—when toggled Active, shows all the mentions identified in the email body outside of headers and allows you to link and unlink mentions.

Inline (text) changes

Alternate inline text is presented in the Conversation View as:

  • An indented child of the document from which they are derived.

  • Added text, underlined and green-shaded

  • Removed text, red strike-through

Mentions

As stated above, Mentions set to "on" under View allow you to view, click, link, and unlink mentions to People Profiles. For more information, see the Mentions in the MA Thread Viewer article.
